Ted Baker Designer Focus. Ted Baker was formed in 1987 by Ray Kelvin. He had started his career in fashion by working in his uncle's menswear shop in Enfield at the age of 11, he went on to found the Ted Baker brand in 1988 when he opened a shop specialising in men's shirts in Glasgow. Further stores in Manchester and Nottingham quickly followed and by 1990 there were stores in Soho, Covent Garden & Leeds.
In 1991, the brand launched its Oxford Shirt collection which was an immediate success, this success was built on to develop the Ted Baker brand which by 1995 included Ted Baker for Women and Ted Baker Lite lines. Ted Baker opened its first store in the USA in 1998.
By 1999 the Ted Baker brand started to add to its range with products outside of fashion, with a new women’s fragrance. Its online store was also launched. New product lines followed including jewellery, childrenswear, grooming products, eyewear and, of course, homewares.
